From Dafna Izenberg, features editor:
Our annual Summer Reading issue is a literary event in Canada, a chance for readers to discover some of the country’s best emerging talent and to enjoy fresh offerings from writers they know and admire.
This year, we are thrilled to present short fiction by Lisa Moore, Danny Ramadan, and Cohen Ewart, all authors who have been recognized with prominent national awards and nominations. The Walrus editors simply fell in love with their stories, each one plunging us whole into other places (Moore’s coastal corner store, Ramadan’s Damascus, Ewart’s second-hand suit) and introducing us to characters who endure in our imaginations. Distinct in mood and in voice—beautifully complemented by the artwork of Beck Derrese, Raz Latif, and Natàlia Pàmies Lluís—these stories share two central concerns: love and grief.
And we haven’t forgotten about our poetry fans. You’ll enjoy work by distinguished poets Barbara Nickel, Ronna Bloom, and Sarah Wolfson. Please, dive in.
