The Walrus has received eight nominations across six categories for this year’s National Magazine Awards.
Among the nominations are Luc Rinaldi’s investigation into the proliferation of fakes falsely attributed to Indigenous artist Norval Morrisseau, as well as stories about the fear of migrants in North America. In a year of political turmoil, The Walrus’s essay package on a possible Pierre Poilievre win in the federal election has also been recognized in the Issue Grand Prix category.
As well, The Walrus received nominations for two of our magazine covers: one by Pete Ryan and the other by famed cartoonist Barry Blitt.
“Behind every nomination is a group of editors, writers, designers, and fact checkers pushing each other to do their very best. This recognition belongs to all of them,” Carmine Starnino, editor‐in‐chief of The Walrus, said.
The winners will be announced at a gala event on June 13. Congratulations to all the nominees. And we thank all of you, our readers, for supporting us and sharing our stories. These nominations are possible because of you.
