A lot has happened in national politics in the past few months. To review: the Conservatives threatened no‐confidence votes, Chrystia Freeland stepped down from her cabinet roles with a Shakespearean flourish, and then the prime minister stepped down as leader of the Liberal Party. More recently, a trade war with our closest ally exploded, voter polls veered abruptly in new directions, and the Liberals chose a new leader. And now: a federal election.

The constant changes in this political cycle seem unending and impossible to keep up with, and that’s why The Walrus won’t stop. We may not be breaking news, but what we provide is just as essential: the context of what’s going on in Canada—and the world—so that you can make an informed decision at the polls. Providing these much‐needed details takes time and, to be blunt, costs money. Democracy relies on a free, independent press. And that’s what we are. Please help us to keep going by making a donation to The Walrus today. If you are able to consider a monthly donation, this goes a long way in sustaining our work over a longer period.
