Y WE TRAVEL

Author Pico Iyer says we live in a world of shared destinies—it’s up to us to start the conversation.

“The What Happened Next podcast came out of two odd pleasures of mine: creating podcasts (which I used to do as part of my job) and gossiping with other writers about the pleasures and frustrations they’ve had with putting books out into the world. When I started What Happened Next last year, I had zero idea if anyone would be interested in insider conversations about the writing life; it has been a pleasant surprise to have gotten so much positive feedback. I’m thrilled at the idea of partnering with The Walrus to help bring this writerly gossip to more listeners, and grateful to everyone at The Walrus for making it happen.

“This week’s conversation with award‐winning author and journalist John Vaillant about the enduring impact of his book Fire Weather is a perfect example of what this podcast is about—and will continue to be about.”
